90% of plastic ends up choking our oceans and landfills...
How does it work?
Fungi have been evolving for hundreds of millions of years to break down complex carbon materials like rocks and trees and plastics are no different, being carbon chains themselves. It's literally in mushrooms' DNA to breakdown our plastics!
Our first product: baby diapers
Why? Because each baby goes through ~6,000 diapers and they take 400+ years to break down in a landfill. We teamed up with top diaper engineers, scientists & environmentalists to create a high-performing, mycodigestible diaper (digested by fungi).
The whole ecosystem wins: best for baby, best for parent, best for planet. 🌎
Let's face it: plastic is a big problem. And it's only getting worse.
Plastic production is skyrocketing year after year—choking our oceans and landfills, and invading our brains, bodies, and reproductive organs.
Welcome to the world of plastic-eating fungi.

"While plastic-eating fungi were first discovered by Yale researchers in 2011, the breakthrough has mostly remained confined to laboratories. HIRO has taken this science to the next level — creating a patented, award-winning, shelf-stable, commercial solution that makes fungi-powered plastic recycling safe, scalable and accessible for consumers and manufacturers alike."
